Yolanda Bartram has been teaching Facepainting internationally over 7 years now and is renowned in the face and body-art industry.

‘Teaching and inspiring upcoming face-painters is a lot of fun, I love it when I see people getting excited about this colourful artform’ says Yolanda.

The Saturday class is dedicated to all the basic strokes and blending, tigers and butterflies.

The Sunday class goes a bit more indepth, we work with one-strokes and splitcakes as well as stencils.

We create monsters and fairies.

The workshops are becoming more and more popular and are great for kindi/daycare teachers, mums, teenagers wanting a fun job, nannies and grandparents. You can attend both days or start with just the Saturday class.

We provide lunch and you will receive a certificate and a very fun day.

Workshops are also being taught in Wellington and Christchurch.

After July there will be weekly classes that will over specific topics each week, for student who would like to keep their skills up and learn new things.

This is a whole new indoor and covered, outdoor kids play land for up to 8 year olds.

Indoors there are plenty birthday party rooms  and a jungle playground. Interactive game projections on the ground , electric ride on cars as well as a tasty cafe.

Outdoors there are heaps of carnival like rides for kids like a roller coaster, fear fall, carousel and much more.

The whole new setup, with a rainbow roof, is fun, colourful and very well put together. It’s a lot more spacious than the average Lollipops or Jungle-rama and it has so many added extras with the rides. My  kids enjoyed themselves thoroughly, as parents you are ok to join in the rides which were very fun even for us older folks. Still would love to see some more healthy food options for kids.

All in all, I totally rate this new Kids Kingdom. We are looking forward going back sometime in the near future.

For the face painting, anything rainbow was a hit, I think I did at least 20 rainbow butterflies and a bunch of rainbow fairies I worked mainly with my small #3 round brush. It’s was quite relaxed painting so I was able to be creative with each design and try out some new things. Enjoy the pics.

I have been to every Easter show for the past five years and at this show the family day was really back.

Yolanda, Layla, Sam and I went along on our day off. We went to the circus first. Zirka Circus was a fast paced, jaw dropping Circus with the globe of death and 5 dare devils performing crazy and gravity defying tricks. Acrobats seemed to float in the air; the contortionist could bend her body and juggle at the same time! This circus really started the day off well.

The animal stalls were a fun treat for our kids as they live in the city. And it was great to see them connect with the animals. A friend of mine said that it was the first time Emily had ever seen a pig and she was talking about pigs the whole day!

We heard about the Lumber Jack performance and we made our way over to the show. These guys had us laughing our heads off and at the finale when the lumber jack falls from the pole; we were gaping .

We wanted to go to the Hollywood Horror show that came all the way from the States. We lined up at the door and got pre scared by Crazy Bob! I went through holding Yolanda in front of me and I did pretty well until Freddy Kruger jumped out at me and I sprinted off leaving my poor wife with Freddy. I came out and laughed my head off and decided to do a vertical bungee which was a completely thrilling ride.

Sam got a total mash up by our guys at BodyFX and Layla asked for a cut. When Layla was finished the cut on her face looked real; great work by our apprentice Frankie. Layla wanted to have a photo with the demon from the black swamp…. not a normal request from an 8 year old. Is it?

We stayed for the JGeeks and the Fireworks which capped the show off!

The show this year was top notch! It has been the first time in the past five years where I have seen such a large crowd stay and watch a show. It was so nice seeing teenagers and families mixing well together and having an awesome time.

Next year is already in my diary and the kids can’t want to go.

Parents will be feeling much less strain on their wallets this Easter with plenty of free acts, performances and attractions for the entire family at the 2013 Coca-Cola Easter Show.

ASB Showgrounds CEO Mark Frankham says this is going to be the best value Coca-Cola Easter Show yet.

“With children aged 12 and under getting free access to the event and so many free attractions once they’re inside, families will be getting more than their money’s worth this Easter,” he says.

“We want the Coca-Cola Easter Show to be accessible to all and to make it once again the iconic, must-see event we all remember from our childhoods,” says Frankham.

Once through the main gates, families will have free access to watch the death-defying acts at Zirka Circus, enjoy live performances as well as meet and greets with SpottyWot and DottyWot from The WotWots created by Pukeko Pictures, sing along with Alvin and the Chipmunks and visit all the animals at the A&P Show.

On top of all of this, the chock-a-block full Cultural Stage will entertain crowds with live performances from all over the globe. ‘Metro Maori Electro Craze’ JGeeks, contemporary Samoan dance crew Dee-licious and the colourful Brazilian Divas are just a few of the acclaimed acts.

The Zirka Circus is Frankham’s personal favourite.

“I can’t wait to see the motorbike riders defy gravity in the cage of death. They’ve been training for months to get five riders in the ring at once, it’s going to be incredible,” he says.

Also free-of-charge are the hilarious, death-defying Canadian Bushwhackers’ show, the Strongman contest with feats of Herculean effort, sheep shearing and wool baling competitions and much more.

The fun doesn’t stop there though. Alongside all these fabulous free-of-charge acts the Easter Show is bursting at the seams with other amazing attractions.

The biggest Ferris Wheel Auckland has seen in years will be lighting up the Showgrounds, Face Art Facepainting will be there againg and the all new carnival rides – including the Easter Show’s scariest ever attraction Hollywood Horrors and BodyFX Mad Labs – will be eliciting shrieks and screams all night long and the ticketed Dane Rumble and Titanium Concerts are expected to sell-out.

Frankham says the Coca-Cola Easter Show by day and by night will be absolutely buzzing.

“With Titanium and Dane Rumble playing, all the other exciting things going on and of course fireworks ending every night with a bang, the ASB Showgrounds is the place to be this Easter weekend,” he says.

I was at the Easter show, when the cutest little girl called charlotte, dressed in a pretty purple dress hopped up on my chair to get her face painted. I asked her what she would like to be today, thinking…“this girl will definitely want a butterfly or a fairy”. When to my surprise she opened her mouth and out came the words “A DRAGON!!” with a huge smile on her little face.

Her mother standing behind me was definitely not amused and told me that she really would like a butterfly and that she’s just being silly. I asked Charlotte again, and she insisted she really did want to be a dragon.

Tears welled up in her eyes as her mum wouldn’t let her be a dragon. And I thought this is enough! I turned to her mum and said “Mum, if you want a butterfly, you can have your turn after charlotte gets her dragon!”

When you’re taking the kids to get their faces painted, you’re not doing it for you. Your child for that day, can choose whatever or whoever they want to be for a day and if your cute little princess wants to be a dragon, she’s going to get the fiercest, prettiest most sparkly dragon ever!

What an amazing weekend we just had!

Red nose day and the weekend of fun that followed was one of the best that we at Face Art have ever encountered.

With the song “Feel inside and stuff like that” by the Flight of Concords firmly stuck in our heads; we painted 1000’s of happy children at the Cloud on Auckland’s Water last Saturday.

We painted anything with a red nose; tigers, clowns, red nose pandas you name it we painted it.

We really enjoy being a sponsor of Cure Kids; our sites are firmly set on the next big fund raising event on the 11^th of November, which is the Peugeot Walk on the Wild Side to Cure Kids

About the event:

Peugeot Walk on the Wild Side to cure kids is a fun yet challenging walk, where teams and individuals walk or run a 17km course along the spectacular coastline of the West Coast of Auckland; and they also have a 10km walk/run for families or those that simply want an easier option.

In its third year, competitors in this stunning event navigate a loop track beginning and ending at Bethells Beach, crossing unique private farmland, which passes parts of the Auckland areas largest protected wetland and showcasing the dramatic scenery of this area of New Zealand.

Its not just about the coffee though as soon as you walk in to this cafe your are greeted by welcoming staff, a really practical but stylish decor. World Environment Day is an annual event that is aimed at being the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environment action.
